Eskrima, also known as Kali and Arnis, is a martial arts system developed in the Philippines. It is recognised worldwide as one of the most effective, adaptable, and complete martial arts systems.
Filipino Martial Arts (FMA) has featured in blockbuster films such as The Bourne Identity, The Book of Eli, Iron Man, Total Recall, Resident Evil, and even Star Wars: Episodes 1–3. Why? Because it works. FMA has been battle-tested over centuries and has evolved to address modern self-defence scenarios.
At its core, Eskrima is a weapons-based martial art focusing on sticks and blades, along with empty-hand techniques. In just a few months of training, you’ll learn to defend yourself and even use everyday objects—like a magazine or pen—as effective tools of self-defence.
At Masters Academy Bristol, we teach Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima (CDP), developed by the legendary Supreme Grand Master Ciriaco “Cacoy” Cañete. This style emphasises close-range combat with rapid strikes, disarms, throws, and takedowns.
Our Filipino Martial Arts programme includes weapons training, striking, blade defence, multiple opponent strategies, grappling, throws, and competitive elements—offering a complete system of martial arts.
